Australia and Christmas

Australia has been everything we expected and more. Sydney is fantastic but expensive, the ocean road to Melbourne absolutely priceless, the public BBQs a brilliant institution. We lived off of grilled meat, vegetables, exotic fruits and plenty of water for two weeks.

In our day in Melbourne we visited the Australian Open and the Rod Laver Arena, to discover that the Open was hosting a tournament to give away the wild card draws for all disciplines. So we watched professional tennis for free, sitting next to the coaches on the front row, and even eating with the pros at the player Café. What a gift to get another whiff of professional tennis in our old age. Check out the photos.

Our penultimate night we stopped at a small village three hours away from Sydney for a break, only to spend the evening at the pub with the locals. We were even offered to stay in the guest room... the conversations were good, the characters we met, priceless. Ask us about it when we're back.

Coming to Christchurch in New Zealand after being in Sydney is like going from New York City to Canada... no more mosquitoes, crocs, and dangerous spiders, just sheep and green pastures. No offence to any Australians and Americans out there!

Lorsque nous sommes arrivés devant l'Opera de Sydney......nous nous sommes dit: cette fois nous sommes vraiment en Australie, pas de doute!

Ce qui m'a le plus impressionée, c'est de voir tout ces animaux que l'on voit normalement au Zoo, se faufiler entre nos jambes! On s'est fait réveiller par les Cacadous (une sorte de perroquet) tout les matins à 5h.....ils ne chantent pas, ils crient! Incroyable.........

Nous avons donc découvert ce super pays avec une chaleur d'été (40 c), la bonne viande de Kangourou (il y a des barbecues publiques dans tous les parcs), la route avec vue incroyable sur la mer, la campagne, les parcs nationaux, les montagnes bleues, le surf, Hillsong, Sydney et Melbourne ou nous avons pu suivre un bout de la qualification du Australia Open.......Fantastique!!!!

En rentrant sur Sydney le dernier soir nous sommes sortis de la route principale pour chercher des toilettes et voilà que l'on tombe sur un tout petit village avec une église, un boucher, une gare et un pub.......nous avons donc bu un verre avec ces australiens qui nous ont raconté toute l'histoire de l'australie et nous avons meme pu dormir chez l'un deux qui a restauré la gare (ou le train ne s'arrete plus mais passe toute les heures à grande vitesse) pour en faire sa maison.......tout cela pour dire que les gens sont trés ouverts.....et cela a été pour nous une super fin dans ce pays.
